FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. What should a tune-up cost. When comparing companies, a consumer will find the costs of maintenance can vary from $39 to $99. The benefits offered vary also. The rates will also vary depending on the level of service the company is offering. For instant - a company who works with nothing but technicians who work on commission only will usually charge less than a company that pays their technicians by the hour. A company who does not offer same day service everyday of the year will charge more because of overhead expense than a company who only works during typical business hours (M-F 8 to 5). The level of service is usually directly proportional to the dollar amount spent.
Generally anything between $69 and $129 is considered an average rate
2. City Public Service recommendations City Public Service recommends having only a licensed professional contractor clean the air conditioner in the summer and perform regular maintenance on the furnace during the fall - every year. They agree maintenance will help keep your utility bill low and reduces the number of breakdowns.
3. What can homeowners do for their air conditioner?
- Keep leaves, grass, ivy and other debris away from the outside unit to avoid obstructing the air flow.
- Check air conditioning filters once a month.
- Replace disposable filters when necessary. When filters become dirty, the air conditioning system and furnace work harder, wasting energy. Permanent filters should be cleaned according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Clean dust from return registers as part of your house cleaning routine
